Depart USA for Shanghai by air. Cross the International Date Line. Upon our arrival at Shanghai in the evening , we are met and transfers to the hotel for a well deserved rest in five star luxury. Full day tour takes us all over Shanghai. Visit the Yu Garden, built for the elderly parents of a wealthy man, and continue on to the famous Nanjing Road. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Huangpu River at the Bund. In the evening we attend an exciting Chinese Acrobatics Show for entertainment. Take the last opportunity to stroll along the exotic Bund.
Note that the various buildings along the river are sure signs of past international influences. In the afternoon, we board a flight bound for the capital of China, Beijing. The capital of China is also home to its many historical sites. Home also to its past emperors, today we visit the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. We also visit the Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest square. A special Pecking Duck Banquet Dinner is prepared for us tonight. Perhaps the most exciting highlights of Beijing is the Great Wall. Spanning thousands of miles across Northern China, the Great Wall was originally built as a defense against marauders to the North.
We spend the morning touring this manmade wonder of the world, then proceed to the Ming Tomb Museum. Upon our returning to the city we are treated to the Emperor’s Banquet and a Chinese Opera. Our final stop in Beijing is the somber and grandiose Temple of Heaven. After lunch we board a flight bound for for Chengdu, the capital of Szechuan Province. Upon arrival we proceed by bus with our city tour. Chengdu’s City Zoo is the home to more pandas than any other zoo in the world. After our visit to the zoo, we visit the temple of Marquis Wu. Board a morning flight to Lhasa, capital of Tibetan Autonomous Region. As the next several days will be especially tiring, we are advised to stay at the hotel and relax our bodies.
We’ll need all the energy we can save for sightseeing atop the roof of the world. Our full day tour takes us to Potala Palace, Johkang Lamasery and Norbu Lingka. Take a walk along Barkhor Street and get a taste of local culture as we bargain with the local Tibetan vendors for various handicrafts which are rarely seen elsewhere in the world. OUr destination today takes us away from the city center to Deprung Lamasery and Sera Temple. If time permits, we call upon a local Tibetan family and sit down for a cup of jak butter tea and enjoy the hospitality of our host. Our full day excursion takes us to Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, one of the three Holy Lakes and known as the most beautiful lake in Tibet. We depart Lhasa in the morning on a flight back to Chengdu.
Upon arrival, our city tour takes us to Dujiang Dam, an ancient water conservancy project. Other points of interest include Wangjianglou Park (Pavilian for viewing the Jinjiang River) and the Institute of Shu Embroidery, one of the four famous embroidery schools in China. For dinner we enjoy a local specialty cuisine. We take a morning tour to Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage before departing by air for Xian. Upon our arrival we take a brief tour of this ancient capital city of China. In the evening a special Imperial Dumpling Banquet Dinner is provided. Qin Shi Huang’s amazinng legions of Terra Cotta Warriors provide the main highlight for today’s tour. As yet another excavation site is now open to the public, we are able to see more of the Terra-Cotta Warriors that were made to protect the emperor even in death.
After lunch we continue on to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the ancient City Wall. Evening entertainment is provided by the Tang Dynasty Stage Show. After breakfast, we board the flight to Guilin. Guilin is world famous for its serene landscape limestone formations, mist-cov-ered hills, and bamboo groves. It is located on the Li River, surrounding by exotic geographic formaitons. Be sure to bring a camera when on our trip to the Reed Flute Cave and Elephant Trunk Hill this afternoon. Take a cruise down the Li River ,enjoy the picturesque scenery of South China.
Lunch is served on the ship. To night we enjoy a performance of the Minority Folk Dance. Enjoy breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the airport to board a flight to Guangzhou, the Flower City. After a lunch of local Cantonese cuisine, a half day city tour takes us to the Chen Family Temple and Yue Xiu Park. Take the express train to Hong Kong, the “Shopping paradise”. Better known as the “Pearl of the Orient”, Hong Kong is a vibrant, bustling ,international island. Our half day tour takes us around Hong Kong Island; enjoy a cable car ride up to Victoria Peak where we have a panoramic view of the island and its harbor. The afternoon is free for leisure activities. Hong Kong is also known as the “Asia’s Shopping Paradise”. Today we have an opportunity to do some last minute shopping as the full day is at our leisure. After breakfast, transfer to airport for your home bound flight.
